The University of Western Ontario

Professor Rothstein is the Chair of the Management and Organizational Studies (MOS) Department in the Faculty of Social Science at the University of Western Ontario. Prior to this position, he was a Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Richard Ivey School of Business from 1988 to 2008, and prior to that he spent six years as a management consultant. From 2002 to 2007, he was the PhD Program Director at the Ivey Business School where he led the initiative to redesign and grow the PhD Program from approximately 10 students to approximately 80. Professor Rothstein has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as on numerous Executive Development programs.

MOS offers a unique interdisciplinary approach to management education, the only program of its kind in Canada. The program combines a strong evidence-based foundation in one of five areas of business (Accounting, Commercial Aviation Management, Consumer Behavior, Finance, and Human Resource Management) with a broader educational perspective from the Social Sciences and other disciplines. This provides our students with core business skills and the opportunity to pursue broader educational interests, which prepares them for a rapidly changing global management environment. The MOS accounting program obtained full accreditation by CPA in 2015.

Professor Rothstein obtained his Ph.D. in 1983 in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and has published extensively in the areas of personnel selection, the use of interpersonal networks in leadership and career development, expatriate adjustment to international assignments, and the integration of skilled immigrants to the Canadian economy. In 2010 he published a book entitled “Self-Management and Leadership Development”. A chapter he co-wrote in this book, on the topic of resiliency in leadership, is now the focus of his current research interests, with a number of new projects under development. Professor Rothstein has consulted for a wide variety of private and public sector organizations regarding personnel selection practices, performance evaluation systems, executive team building, leadership development, and various organizational development programs. In his current role, he leads one of the largest undergraduate programs at the University of Western Ontario with a growing reputation for providing an innovative approach to management education, and producing graduates prepared to make meaningful contributions to management decisions and practices in the organizations they join.
